Opel Corsa-e Becomes The World's First Electric Rally Car!

Wednesday, August 28, 2019

For the first time, the German car brand Opel announced a fully electric version of the new generation Corsa. This version, called the Opel Corsa-e, has been revised for the rally series.

Opel Corsa-e Rally expects electric power

Introduced by Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller, the car is described as the first electric rally car to be developed based on the mass production version. Tumble cage, Torsen limited slip differential, rally tuned MacPherson suspension and 17 ″ ET20 rim are among the upgrades. The brake discs are also enlarged and reinforced with a 4-piston caliper for better braking performance.

Opel's electric rally car carries a similar package under the hull as the road version. The electric motor, which produces 136 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque, comes with specially optimized motor control software. As such, we can say that the vehicle will not have an electronic speed limit. In addition, the existing 50 kWh battery is untouched.

The Opel Corsa-e Rally will replace the Adam R2 model used in the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup. It is reported that 15 vehicles will be produced and the sale price will be below 50.000 Euro. Since the Corsa-e Rally is built for racing homologations, we can see the electric model in other organizations.
